How to Choose the Right Corporate Retreat Venue
Selecting the perfect venue for your corporate retreat is more than just finding somewhere that can accommodate you all.
If you peel back the onion on what your retreat is for- there are going to be some big business objectives to look at. Your retreat is a lever to pull in order to meet those business objectives, and it’s important not to lose sight about this big purpose, especially when you start getting into a lot of the detail.
The big picture should be kept in mind right from the start- and you definitely need to answer the question- does this all feel on-brand for your team? Functional isn’t nearly enough, will your event put a spring in everyone’s step.
It’s then about finding a space that aligns with your company’s objectives, culture and energises your team- an event to bring out the best in everyone. We always talk about ‘firing your team up’ as that’s a common denominator that runs across all of our clients. Looking forward to the future with optimism is something we all want- and your retreat absolutely needs to deliver on this.
At Elsewhere, we believe that the best ideas don’t happen around a boardroom table but beside a fire-pit, over shared meals, during long walks in the countryside, or after engaging team-building activities when energy levels are sky high. You may have heard us say this before but it’s well worth repeating, as it’s so important.
Here’s a guide to help you navigate the selection process and ensure your retreat is both impactful and memorable.
Define Your Corporate Retreat Objectives
Before diving into venue options, clarify the purpose of your retreat:
Team Building: Strengthening relationships and improving collaboration.
Strategic Planning: Focusing on company goals and future direction.
Innovation Workshops: Encouraging creative thinking and problem-solving.
Retreats can often be a mixture of needs and understanding your goals will guide your venue choice, ensuring the environment supports your desired outcomes.
Consider Accessibility and Location
An ideal venue is easily accessible to all participants. At Elsewhere Offsites, our locations are within two hours of London, with complimentary Land Rover pickups from the nearest station, ensuring a seamless journey for your team. Proximity reduces travel fatigue and maximises retreat time.
It’s also worth thinking about travel time versus event time. Clients are often happy to travel a bit further if there’s at least one overnight stay and for global events with international travel we would recommend at least 2 nights away.
Evaluate Venue Capacity and Layout
Ensure the venue comfortably accommodates your group and offers diverse spaces:
Large Conference Areas: For full team sessions.
Breakout Rooms: For smaller group discussions.
Outdoor Spaces: For relaxation and team-building activities.
A variety of spaces fosters both collaboration and individual reflection.
Assess Onsite Amenities and Services
Modern amenities enhance the retreat experience:
Technology: Reliable Wi-Fi and AV equipment for presentations.
Catering: Nutritious meals catering to dietary needs.
Accommodation: Comfortable lodging to recharge after sessions.
At Elsewhere, we manage all aspects from planning to execution, ensuring a hassle-free experience.
Reflect Company Culture and Values
Choose a venue that embodies your company’s ethos. Our venues have soul and are a light-year away from corporate hotels, offering creative and relaxed environments that bring out the best in everyone.
An environment that resonates with your culture ensures authenticity and comfort. There can be no compromises here.
Budget Considerations
While it’s essential to find a venue that meets your needs, it should also align with your budget. Transparent pricing, like ours, ensures no hidden costs, delivering greater value and allowing for better financial planning.
And don’t forget to factor in travel. Most clients factor this in to their overall costings.
Plan Engaging Activities
Beyond the venue, the activities planned play a crucial role in achieving retreat objectives. Incorporate team-building challenges, wellness sessions, and leisure activities that align with your goals. Our unique team-building activities and glamping offsites offer memorable experiences that foster team cohesion.
